"New Jersey's first major snowstorm of the season slowed the
morning rush-hour today in Monmouth and Ocean counties, closed an
airport and canceled flights at another, canceled school for most
students and caused scores of accidents.
The vast storm, which spread freezing rain and up to a foot of
snow in the south on Wednesday, was expected to drop anywhere from
4 to 9 inches throughout the state, with inland southern areas and
central New Jersey expected to bear the brunt of the storm.
The worst of the storm was expected this afternoon, and officials
expected treacherous driving conditions for the evening commute.
Residents were being urged to stay home if possible.
As of about 11 a.m. today, there were more than 25 accidents on
the Garden State Parkway and minor accidents in municipalities throughout
Monmouth County. Few municipalities reported serious injuries.
Intersections along Routes 35, 36 and 66 in Monmouth County were icy
and cars often spun their wheels as they tried to accelerate after
stopping for lights." Asbury Park Press
